Department of Seafood Science

The prime goal of this Department of Seafood Science is to raise professionals in food processing, quality control and inspection, research and development. To enable them to be the middle or high level cadres in the food processing industry is also our target.

The Department consists of the day program and the evening Continuing Education Division for a 4-year Technical College. It receives students graduated from vocational senior high school, 5-year junior college, and 2-year junior college for cultivating them to be the professional technologists in the industry.

The newly established Seafood Science Graduate School has the goal of raising advanced R&D specialists to accelerate the pronotion of domestic food processing industry.

Southern Taiwan is the main production region of agricultural, fishery, and cattle farming. This Department is located strategically in the major seafood processing region in Kaohsiung City. That is the reason why our professionally trained personnel are able to uplift the quality of operators in the fishery and food processing industries by enhancing the technology of production automation for upgrading the fishery and food processing industries and its competency.

The Department of Seafood Science has excellent faculty and facilities. Courses offered includes, Biology, Micro-Biology, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Seafood Chemistry, Food Cold Storage, Food Processing, Food Analysis and Inspection, Quality control, Factory Management, Marketing and Management, Introduction to Molecular Biology, Introduction to Biological Technology, etc.

The graduates of the Department of Seafood Science may find employments in such private industries as, the food processing factories, low temperature food storage factories, seafood trading companies, and other relevant food industries.

The graduates may also find employments in such government institutions as: Standard Inspection Bureau, Health and Medical Bureau, Seafood Experimental Stations, City and County Fishery Departments, etc.

There are also other employment opportunities, such as Bio-Technology Firms, Scientific instrument firms, etc. Many of our graduates who are in the relevant work with great performances are much appreciated by the industries.
